Cottage location
Alfonska mountain cottage is located in the protection zone of the Giant Mountains (Krkonoše) National park (KRNAP), at the foothill of the Žalý Mountain (1015 m above sea level) close to the village of Benecko in Štěpanická lhota. Alfonska is, even in the winter months, easily accessible both by car and by bus. It has been a haunt for mountain lovers for decades, where you can come for relaxation, walks in the nearby countryside and for sporting activities (ski slopes, cross country skiing, cycling). The cottage has its own sports areas and outdoor swimming pool that can be used in the warmer months.
- above the cottage there are the two longest ski lifts in the location of Benecko
- bus stop (direct link Prague - Benecko) is directly next to the cottage
- the centre of Benecko is only a 30 minute walk away (restaurants, discos, bars, gaming establishments, bowling)
Trips around
Benecko stretches over the south-west slopes in western part of the Giant Mountains. This favourable position provides plenty of sunshine and fresh mountain air into the village. The historical centre of the location used to be Štěpnice castle built in 1304. Currently on the site of the former castle are the bastion ruins and remains of the defence system. Benecko was firstly independently mentioned in sources in 1628. Its founder was probably Beneš, and was probably called Benešsko before becoming Benecko. The legend tells the story of a recluse from the Saint Benedict friary and a deer, which became his friend. This is probably how the crest of the village originated - a deer head with a cross between the antlers.
- The stone viewing tower of Žalý (1015 m above sea level) built in 1892, which some say provides the most stunning panoramic view of the Giant Mountains.
- The mountain ranch with livestock breeding of horses (approx. 60), that due to their endurance, calm character and fairly small growth are suitable even for beginner riders.
- The ruins of Štěpnice castle that are hidden in a bulky cone of debris. Recent archaeological research indicated that further interesting findings can be expected in this area
